This is the first in a
series of step-by-step processes to build textural layers for your creative
work. I used only one set of stamps in doing the artwork. I used set 115 from
Impress Me rubberstamps.
This lesson will show using a variety of stamp
pads and paint to achieve the finished look. You can work on paper, fabric,
altered books, or any other surface of your choice. I did all of the samples on
Costco's Kirkland Photo Paper. The photo paper is amazing to use and I prefer it
to other glossy papers since the photo paper does not buckle when wet, making it
easy to add additional layers and to add embellishments by gluing and sewing.
SUPPLIES:
I used the Sherrill Kahn's Travel Paint Studio
for the projects, but you can buy the paint separately in art stores. The studio
has the brush, sponge, Sorbets, Neopaques, Lumieres, and the metal applicator
tip for adding highlights to your designs. The paint studio can be purchased
from this website.

Project One: Size---5 ½ x 8
Step
One:
Use Clearsnap Chalk colors to stamp patterns on the background. I
stamped both horizontally and vertically. Apply the color by patting it
onto the rubber stamps. The images are excellent on the photo paper. |
Step
Two:
Add additional colors of stamping filling more patterns into the
background using additional chalk colors. |
Step
Three:
Dip a sponge into the lid of a jar of Blueberry Sorbet or squeeze the color onto
the sponge from a squeeze bottle. Remove most of the color onto a separate piece
of photo paper set to the side of your main design. I call that separate piece
of paper a serendipity piece. It is sometimes your favorite piece. Lightly
sponge the Blueberry Sorbet over some of the chalks, subduing the bright colors.
Step
Four:
Sponge a warm Chalk color over the dry Blueberry Sorbet and sponge some
Gold Lumiere over selected areas. Highlight chosen areas with Gold
Lumiere. |
Project Two:
Size---5 ½ x 8 Repeat steps One, Two, Three and Four from
Project One using Clearsnap's Ancient Page stamp pads.
Step
Five:
Add sponged Gold Lumiere colors over the design. Highlight selected
areas with Gold Lumiere. |
Project Three:
Size---8 ½ x 11 |
Step
One:
Use both Clearsnap's Chalk colors and Clearsnap's Ancient Page colors to
rubber stamp designs on the surface. Overlap some of the designs for
more variety. Sponge chalk colors over some of the stamped designs (I
used olive green and red orange). |
Step
Two:
Add additional stamp designs, covering the entire surface. |
Step
Three:
Using techniques discussed in Step Three from Project One, add Lumiere Gold,
Blueberry Sorbet, and Watermelon Sorbet over some of the stamped images. |
Step
Four:
Sponge additional color using Jacquard's Scarlet and Magenta Textile Paints.
Also add Blueberry Sorbet color to additional areas.
Step
Five:
Build more layers of color using Textile colors from Step Four and additional
metallic color. Also add some darks to the design with Jacquard's Neopaque
Violet. Use a flat brush to apply Grape sorbet to the middle area over the red
orange horizontal color. Highlight selected areas with applicator tipped bottle
with Gold Lumiere. |
Project Four and
Project Five:
Both
are done exactly like the other projects using other stamps from Set 115,
Clearsnap Chalks, Clearsnap Ancient Page colors, and Jacquard Paints.

Have fun with this project and see
what new things you can develop using every stamp from one stamp set. |
