1======= [ Letter From Sherrill & Joel ]==========

Hi everyone,

Please forgive the long delay in getting this second newsletter to you.
Joel and I deeply appreciate your taking the time to sign up for the
newsletter and we will get the newsletter out more promptly in the future.

Things have been very busy for Joel and I. I have been working on the final
edit of my new book "Creating with Paint, New Ways, New Techniques".
Look for it to be on the shelves around the 22nd of January or you may
order it at this time from our website. (See "What’s New" for instructions)
I am very excited about it and think that you will really enjoy the color and
the techniques. Thank you to all of you who have pre-ordered the book.

Look for the new magazine "Belle Armoire" to premiere this spring. I have
written an article for it and am quite excited about this wonderful new
magazine from the editor of Somerset Studio, Sharilyn Miller. Somerset
Studio is a gorgeous magazine with informative and creative articles for
rubber stampers, paper artists, and calligraphers. If you haven’t seen it yet,
look for it at your local book store or call (877) Stamper to find out
where you can get a copy.

I think that you will love this month’s tip. Wait until you see the one for
the next newsletter. It is a really fun one as well.

Don’t hesitate to write or call if you need help or have questions.
Joel and I are always delighted to hear from you.

Cordially,
Sherrill and Joel

3============= [ CREATIVE TIP ]==================

CREATING A STAMP PAD USING A LARGE SPONGE

This is an incredibly exciting technique. It is also easy and inexpensive to do.
It opens the possibility of using different paints to create a unique and
individual stamp pad. You can even rubber stamp dyes using this technique.
Liquid paint is usually very difficult to rubber stamp so this process opens
up many possibilities.

Materials:

Large hydrophilic sponge: These are sponges that never harden and can be
purchased atlarge hardware stores. Keep the sponge intact and do not cut it
apart. It will be about 7" long or maybe slightly longer.

Liquid paint For paper: Liquid acrylics and inks can be used. There are a
number of these products on the market. I have used Pelikan inks, Liquid watercolors, Golden liquid acrylics, Craft acrylics such as Ceramcoat, Americana, Folk Art, etc.

For fabric: You can use craft liquid acrylics such as Ceramcoat, Americana,
Folk Art, etc. Golden liquid acrylics can also be used on fabric. Fabric dyes
are also ideal for this technique. If using fabric paint and not acrylic paint,
the fabric must be heat set according to the manufacture's instructions.

Experiment to seek which paints you prefer and keep notes on your discoveries.

OLD CREDIT CARD

PROCESS:

1. Squeeze one or more colors on top of each other and in a line on the
    dry hydrophilic sponge.
2. Use the credit card to scrape the paint down the sponge.
3. Pat the stamp onto the paint on the sponge.
4. Print the rubber stamp onto the surface.
5. Repeat as needed.
6. Wash the sponge with water and let it dry when finished.

I have found that the images are wonderful when doing this process and
inks and dyes which normally will not rubber stamp can now be used. Have fun!!!
